We are trying desperately to communicate with an extraterrestrial civilization to know we are not alone in the universe. Until today, no response has been obtained from our alien friends. However, the “Wow” signal could be something amazing which can change your mind on extraterrestrial beings.

Wait, Wow?
Yes, this is how the signal has been named! Discovered in the late 1970s, the Wow signal was not considered as a sound originated from earth. The sound came from the constellation of Sagittarius and was 72 seconds in duration. Astronomers retried to search it again but in vain.
As hydrogen is mostly everywhere in the universe, the researchers of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) thought that a frequency of 1420 MHz would be appropriate for aliens to communicate with us. To their utter amazement, the Wow signal corresponded this frequency which was of course an amazing discovery.
So, where are the aliens?
If the signal came from the constellation of Sagittarius, can we find a planet or a star there that has extraterrestrial life? This is what hundreds of astrophysicists, astronomers, cosmologists and others have asked since decades. This constellation is fabulous with its famous stars such as Nunki, Kaus Media, Kaus Australis, etc.
Some of the stars were known by the Sumerians, the first civilization world wide. The Sumerians used to believe their Gods, knows as “Anunnaki“, were extraterrestrials who came from the stars. It was also known by other ancient civilizations on earth. In a pseudo-scientific perspective, we can say probably there are alien civilizations somewhere in that region. That signal could not come by its own, it is clear it was sent, but this remains a mystery, we do not have any evidence to support it!
Do not be so fast…
Even there are wonderful facts which can say the signal was from alien beings, we cannot be fully sure it was. Some questions still remain on the table:
- Was the signal originated from earth but the frequency changed due to space debris?
- Was the frequency from the military?
- Did someone make a prank?
Contradictions still exist on this discovery!
Conclusion
The Wow signal discovery will remain our first “evidence” for the existence of an extraterrestrial life, which is better advanced than us. SETI must continue in its research, who knows, perhaps one day we will get the signal again!
