People who live in Texas, particularly in the town of Marfa will know about the mysterious lights which often appear at night! This phenomenon has been baptized as the Marfa Lights!
It is said that these lights are paranormal or perhaps from Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO). The aspect of paranormal or UFO related to the Marfa Lights is originated since a long time ago. According to its origin, a woman was passing on the street with another person, and they both saw some strange lights appearing far away from them.
The lights did not move too much, they thought that perhaps they were fire, but when they glanced carefully, they did not have an explanation of these lights, thus, they created a superstition, and named it, the ‘ghost lights’, in other words, these lights they saw were from ghosts! Well, it sounds stupid of course, but this is how superstition is created, when there is no evidence and also studies conducted!
In reality, the Marfa Lights have nothing to deal with the paranormal. They are just lights from vehicles on the road. Scientists and science students from universities have studied this matter near, and they found that these lights are purely man-made, from automobiles. If you watch some videos on Marfa Lights or just go there, you will clearly see that these lights have nothing to do with paranormal.
If you have seen the Marfa Lights, tell us your opinion and experience…

I was just there, saw them for the first time. Gotta agree with Texgirl – they don’t act like car headlights at all. The night I saw them one would turn on and stay stationary – then it would fade out and maybe 30 seconds later come back on just as bright, but in the *same* *place*. A car would have been moving. I was watching one through a binoculars when it suddenly doubled – an identical light appeared about 5 degrees to the left of the first. Then the double flickered and colorshifted, going through orange down to deep red before going out. After about 30 seconds the original light stopped almost as if a switch had been turned off.
At the peak there were 5 or 6 going at the same time. I don’t know what they are, but they do NOT act like car headlights at all. How do headlights colorshift through the spectrum while remaining stationary?
Most of the post is wrong. My brother lives in Marfa and I’ve been out a few times to see the lights. I’ve only witnessed them myself once, and on that occasion they remained stationary. There is a highway near the area on which you can see headlights in the distance and many people MISTAKE them for the Marfa Lights. However, the actual lights are a whole other phoenomenon that usually appear further away from the highway in an open pasture miles from town. They’ve been witnessed since the first settlers arrived there in the 1800′s. Nobody was “passing on the street” because there was no street at the time. If the lights show up it’s usually around dawn or dusk and a lot of times they zig and zag, but not always (as with my experience). I believe they’ve been attributed to a natural occurrence called “static lightening” (or something like that. Google can help there). But it is a neat attraction and worth the visit, if you’re lucky enough to witness them. I have not heard about any sounds associated with them.
Thank you for your additional details. I wrote the post based on the researches I did.
i have never personally seen the lights. but i have heard a few rumors that there are sounds associated with the lights. has anyone else heard that? i found this link that plays some of the sounds that were recorded. sounds pretty cool! {Link posted has been removed, read the disclaimer}
